Yeah, It'll be fine on the lawn this summer, I'll assure folks about the Decanter gong :roll:

One starts with this wine, stops' em hitting my fave's too hard.

As good as any I suppose, they have a section in the mag where they recco wines in the £5~£15 range available on the high street.

Any Rhones on that list ? The talk this year for the '09s so far, is for the syrah harvest in the North.

Chateau La Couranconne, La Fiole, Cotes du Rhone-Villages Seguret (2009) £10.50

Attractive nose of oak, black tea, incense and aniseed. Lovely, generous blackberry fruit palate with a hint on tapenade and tar. Influenced by Syrah, juicy and fleshy. Lovely finish with ripe tannins and floral traces. Drink 2010-13. (18.75 points) Decanter Rating 5 stars

Available from Wine in Cornwall, which when you click on that link, it goes to a Decanter list that they do not appear to be on !

Interesting, they are all southern's of course, but it's very well worth noting that Seguret scores highly in most of the seperate village wines.

After post from Dunc, went for my second of these tonight. Cracked the cork and replaced it. Left for 5 hrs. Decanted it and poured a glass.
First hit was pleasant and limey swiftly followed by an underlying soft blandness. Then, arggghhh, that horrid medicinal / chemical all-pervading nastiness. I can't get on with this, went down the drain. Washed the glass and my mouth and went for something else.
What is this taste? It's in Chablis and some Bx whites as well...help.

Chablis could be excessively flinty but neither Saint Veran or Bodeaux would be flinty. All three can be oaked but you've enjoyed oaked whites in the past so that just leaves ( if all wines had a cork ) cork taint. I sometimes get a hint of something burnt on the end of a Burgundy. Saint Veran is a bugger for this. My old Somerfield used to stock a Georges Dubeouf (?) St Veran and all 4 that I tried went back.

A Loire sauvignon chardonnay blend from Majestic had a taste of burnt rubber and went down the drain.

I still got a refund for it though as the empty bottle reeked of it.

If it is ......I just don't understand your taste buds ! I would not have decanted the wine for five hours if it was. Freshness is what you wanted, and needed with this chardonnay, not a damn good airing. The wine is fragile, that is why I say.... drink fairly soon.

Please say more.

Yep, the St V from M&S. First one was just drinkable straight out of the bottle, but not one that I would buy again even at 5.99
So I thought I'd try a different approach. Not the cork, but it was bad enough for me to sling it after first sip. Can't find a term to describe it. Maybe nail polish or the BritCello factory at Bridgewater.

Well, I dunno what to say. But try this as a last ditch attempt to get something you want

Modern Saint Veran is like this.....But ...(hardly cellophane thinners for heaven's sake) You'd have to promote yourself up to Chassagne or Puligny Monty to get more away from that A Typical chardonnay flavour that you don't enjoy from the lesser Cote d'OR and Chalonnaise, and that probably is the reason why you don't like mod chablis as well as the Pascal Prunier-Bonheur Auxey-Duresses blanc that you disliked.

You have one more bottle Ba. So....Chill it right down to 6 or 7c and then take striaght from the bottle. Shove the cork back in immediately after pouring, and wop straight back in the fridge.

That 5 hours decanting and airing amplified the flavour that you don't like; You do realise that. You're not going to like boggy standard basement Meursault either, so please dont buy any of that.

You nor anyone else. Much the same with food. Didn't have coffee or spaghetti 'til 16 yo, and rice, bacon, sausages, pies, pasties etc. 'til past 20. First and only mouthful of indian at 19. First Chinese at 23 and first (and last) kebab at 26. All meat has to be absolutely lean and cooked right through, all forms of eggs need to be solid. No offal or seafood, no chilli, curry etc., no coloured or soft cheese. Hate Marmite
