And Tesco. Including their ever expanding online range which now has 93 sb's.

This offer excludes fine wine and err.. Tesco seem to have upgraded most of their online exclusives to fine wine status especially for this promotion of err tat.

MrD won't be happy

Tat maybe but I've just collared a dozen for under £30 (That's 1½ sheep in real money).

There was some tat in there and strong money too. Suspect vintages, at normal money - typical of a huge monopoly and controlling magnate.

However, we should deal with this matter logically:

I received the email, along with another 50,000 folks, from Tesco at 13:35 today.

Having very quickly scanned the Burgundy, big T are taking more than a few from sole importers and shippers Mentzenorff. You can look-up the duty paid, DPD 15+ case price, if you have the catalogue Tesco are not killing the traditional Merchants with these prices. So actually - that is a blessing in disguise, a cloud with a silver what'sit for the independent owner drivers.

I would expect that .....No one is that happy with the new online arrangements. May be some Caterrers for important dining events, who don't have a relationship with anyone in the business, just might use this facility to save time !

At the low budget end, If one is drinking the ocassional special bottle, and only want to hold stocks of 2 or 3 bottles from selected vintages and from selected regions, it does not work.

Tesco's stance here, prices out wine lovers with a careful or measured budget. Majestic wins hands down, because buyers may take a serious wine or two as part of the 6, every time they call in.

Moving into the market for bigger spenders - the arrangement still does not appeal.

Looking at the bottle prices, there is very little discount for 6, and buyers can't mix and match the vintages for particular wines. This is an arrangement for credit card users who have bigger numbers on their statements. Some of the prices were strong for the vintage, but not for the wine, when on song for a good vintage.

For anyone building a collection that has an in depth scope for styles and vintages and regions, unless buyers have large cellars and deep pockets, it's not going to appeal. There were quite a number of wines there, that I would not want to take half a case, or even a pair at that price, regardless of my card limit !

I might want to take a couple, or three though. A retrograde step I'm affraid, and for experienced users, hopeless, because you can't assess the potential of a wine without buying half a case.

The corporate marketing people have knobbled the wine buyers at Tesco ! They have looked at shelf space costs, unit volume and turnover....mind you, tiolet roll can't be a winner. May be they also suffer from a load of in store shrinkage and theft.

But in the final analysis - Wine lovers who just want an ocassional treat now and again, have been dumped.

Looks like this offer is until the beginning of Tuesday as the website is no longer showing it.

I was going to make a trip at lunchtime so if anyone can confirm it'll save me wasting my time.

Sorry Tribs,

I cant confirm anything for the Sains offer - nothing about Corp strategy, or regional variation.

I can tell you that all the All Discount Decor was on display as I was reminded by the floor manager, a friendly youngish woman who had the store till keys in her hand, that the store was closing in Dorset last night. I left nearly 8 minutes late - and she thought no-one was still left inside

I also had a very friendly re-stocking guy looking all over the place for the Campo Viejo Reserva '04 that could have been had for (12,99 less 2.99 less 25%) but none in the store room. Tip ..... CV Reserva and gran Reserva on a good year is good, keeps better than many, normally has a decent bouquet.

Nevermind. I went to maj instead. I know I'm preaching to the converted, but they are second to none in terms of the wine buying experience. Excellent (above and beyond) customer service. Tasting counter. Offers on long enough so that you can buy a bottle and the wines still be on offer when you get round to trying it. Great wines at great prices. Nuff said.

BTW the Tain Crozes is slightly different to the Waitrose one. Different bottle and only a silver at the Orange Concours 09.

You're on this before I say anything at all  How does it drink ?

Yep, having stopped off the motorway for a mini detour - Was Caught - so I Bought :? I needed petrol as well.

Found a few 07 Tain Crozes £8.49 less 25%. Also an '09 Bergerac, cos I want to know how this claret style wine faired in the inland sector in the East, and then..... cos I enjoyed Michel Chapoutier's treatment of the Belleruche CdR '07 with a ripe Grenache element in the Syrah.... I thought I'd give MC's 2007 Cotes du Rouissillon Villages on the same braile label a try, I believe it is Dom Bila-Haut and at £8.99 less 2.99 less 25%.

That lot is wholesale 15+ duty paid case prices

So, knowing me, 5 x Rhones on the '07 must 'ave for me vintage, at an ave' of a fiver and an '09 Bergy ta boot. It's alright.

Dunc, I meant the Tain Croze at Maj.

I did not take the chance with Sainsburys, but had in mind the Tain and the Chap Rouissillon too. I may pop there later just to check.

Picked up 4 07 Rhone from Maj though.

The Tain Crozes
Beaumes Venise Desirat
Lirac Desirat
Perrin et Fils CdR Villages

had another look in my "mega" Sains the other day.
Found myself more interested by the ale aisle than the wine.

c'mon Sainsbury's sort it out ! other than Clos de l'Oratoire des Papes CndP (which is to price and 2008 vintage) they have nothing but the mass mkt kak.

Along with WR, Maj with it's Oz, NZ, Chile & Rhone all on offer will have my biz for now

Still 25% off in Stroud ten minutes ago. Also, have a feeling WR might be joining in. Their offers end tomorrow and the next lot start next Tuesday.

Nice Pick.

There is a TN from me on the '07 Perrin et Fils villages - bought from Tony Laithy - I was impressed. Lirac from the Desirat co-op, not tried here, interesting. The chat Pegau SA group made a Lirac some years ago - can be excellent if not a little too "palma violets" on the first hit. Rustic ones are better - I'm all ears.

I drunk one or two BV's in their time. Good vintages can make a B V that is no so sticky after time. Tthere was one particular cuvee where the fruit was taken up river, and made in Beaune, or nearby in cote d'Or. That wine at 20 years was amazing - you need to forget about one until your hair is as grey as mine
