Ive never owned a credit card in my life.

Have a debit card but Im not comfortable with using this abroad hence the Euros.

I literally only use this card for travelling abroad. Only reason I got it

I do have another card tho but this is always paid off in full at the end of every month.
I just use it as a debit card with a slighty deferred payment.
Never have I spent beyond my means

A lot of people do and I can see how they can get in to trouble.
Think they often have the wrong attitude that its "free money". However, once they start having to pay the interest too it can all spiral out of control

I do exactly the same, except there's two cards. Amex for family stuff and Egg Money for my stuff . Or where Amex is not accepted . Cash back on both, so a nice little windfall once in a while. Direct debit to pay off in full so no interest charged.

Never a borrower or a lender be.

Sometimes the bill can be a little unexpected, but I expect a lot of people get into trouble because of "Bury your head in the sand" syndrome.

GK I understand your stance on this. But you are not a borrower if you use the facility accademically.

However you are being taken for a ride by the Banks, particularly on cash. They charge stupid money for cash handling.

GK, set up your direct debit to settle your card IN FULL on the last day of the settlement period. That way you get zero charges, a bit of credit at zero cost, and what is even more satisfying .....All the other jerks with no discipline pay for all the processing costs.

Use traditional plastic only - best is your own bank's VISA card. That way the settlement is auto on the last day.

Another advantage, is the unique cover you get with UK cards as a UK resident, you can return an unsatisfactory product, and reverse the transaction on the supplier and he can do nothing to stop you. Correspondence to the supplier, copy to VISA .......Job done. They even have to collect the product from your premises.

I know there are ways to manipulate the CC system to your advantage, use here, pay there, use this card for that, another for this......

I really cant be bothered with all the admin involved.

Cash is king in this country now. I will happily walk into a store and say Im paying cash, what discount will you give me. Nine times out of ten they offer a discount to get the sale, if they dont their competitor will.

One card, one detailed statement of expenditure, one payment, no unexplained loss, no fees, file with your bank statements - Job done

Forgive me guys, Im one of those type that hates 'clutter' (and gadgets).

The less I own, the freer I feel.

My philosophy? Id rather read a book.

Wilcos have reduced all their plants/seed pots/onion sets to half marked price. I just picked up three seed-garlic bulbs for a pound, this should give me 30+ bulbs once I have separated them into individual cloves and planted them on the plot. Bargain!

For the record- Im much better looking than David Dickinson.

Back to the Riscal ...

Everytime I open the door into the kitchen I get a lovely whiff of Rioja, simply from the upside down cork in the bottle. Powerfully fragrant wine this. Just a tiny drop left now though.

Oh and rioja goes really well with those tiny spicy salamis and spicy corn and cracker snacks (available in asda).
