I'd phoned thru ealier in the week needing 4 champagne and a number of flutes for a Diamond Wedding aniversary buffet in Purbeck - family plus a few neighbours.
Mark and Andy said take the Jacquart Brut Tradition, now on offer at £15, a fuller style with some interesting patisserie notes.
I needed to make up the 6, and Mark and I tried the '08 Dry Hills barel fermented SB, not bad at all, in the softer cloak, rather than the polished and beaten breast plate.
About 2 years ago, perhaps more, I'd bought quite a few affordable Gevrey, a small parcel of this village wine on the lovely 1999 vintage. This wine for me was a super bargain, and a very satisfying, light and fragrant evening apperatif it is. Lovely also with subtle nibbles, or a light cold meat & salad lunch on Sunday.
We were walking round the store, and looked at cote d'or Pinot as usual, there was a very good '05 Ladoix, and other fine stuff and hidden behind these, yes.... you guessed it, just
two lurking there ..... he teased me, Hmmn..... thought you might, umm maybe, still be interested in these ?
Mark, "Where the hell did you find them" Yeah, I get around, here and there, you know, hmnn, around the place. "You remembered, what a gent" hmn.... Saw them and thought of you.
Now, that is real service. Great guys at my local...... Me, a happy chappy.
Enjoy your week-end folks
