Violet, beautiful smell. Perfumed in the mouth. Dinner party wine if you have wine lovers round. Nice discussion wine.

Yes, I kept some back.....because they discounted the wine by £2 at Christmas 2007, so I bought more. I knew it was a star for the dosh anyway.

Enjoyed one of these last Saturday night...I have 3 more. I was hoping the violet, lavender and eucalyptus would subside a bit, hoping that Margaux Cab would shine through.
The cigar box nose and some cedar was nicely present now, and more sweet oak to the finish as well, and the wine seemed richer, still inky dark right to the rim and more succulent on 1st palate. BUT that violet and eucalytus was too much for me......Damn......damn.

My host absolutely loved it though, and I let him finish the bottle whilst we played pool till 01:45. He was very complimentary

I wonder if I should wait a bit longer to rid some of the V and E ? say to 2011/12. Mel - what do you think ?

Don't you like V and E. 2003 is tricky, and I'm not sure it would still be lively in 11/12. What about having one around Christmas and seeing how it's going.

Just an idea.

Mel, thanks for the opinion. Yeah, 2003 is not tannic enough, but holding incredibly well, cos the fruit has such a huge dimension. The V & E, too much for me. With Christmas Pudding and cream may be - is a good idea. We were drinking this as a post dinner port, so to be fair to the wine, it was completely naked to my observation for defects.

A note for best beaune lovers - 2003 is lush in my book (MW's say 2003 is too ripe, but good 03 cote d'or prices have risen by 40% in the last 12 months or so !)
For main course (acquired in the early cr. crunch) I bought a Chanson Beaune Cham Pimonts 1er 2003 last one :( For me that evening, nothing could compare to the seduction of that full figured beauty and harmonious balance of that nectar. Therefore, and perhaps for me, this economic Marg hadn't got a chance.

I should keep a tea spoon full of Hardy's Crest on hand - then everything in my dinner party stock would be wonderful

Stop Shez, that's the wrong one. The Margaux on the gold label is the one I thought Mel and I we were chatting about.

Lurton makes the soft Merlot jobby at Desmirail, as well as the Cab dominated one 70% cab 25% M 5% PV at Desmirail. Andre and Michael Lurton everywhere and the father who took all the risk with acquisitions and hard work - way back

This is the one U want: If looking for evolution into elegance

Much closer to grand vin fruit Same offer price

Shame you can't buy a couple of the white label softies to mix and match

The gold label was never seen at Marks on the '05, now why is that I wonder

Shez, I have both in stock here and looked them up this evening.
The White label Merlot 76% is made by Denis Lurton
The Gold Label is made by Henri Lurton
