Winemaker and winery: Dr. Lucio Matricardi, Azienda Vinicola Talamonti.
Grape variety: 100% Montepulciano d’Abruzzo.
Region: Loreto Aprutino, Italy.
Viticulture/Vinification: Vineyards are around 250m altitude with mostly south-eastern exposure. Grapes are hand harvested, destemmed, crushed, and then rapidly chilled around 10-12°C. Part of the crush is pumped into vats and left for 7-8 hours. The remaining juice is fermented while the skins are pressed. The separate juice is then added to the press to macerate with skins for less then two hours. Post fermentation the wines are blended, racked into temperature controlled stainless steel vats, clarified, filtered and cold stabilised at -5°C. The wine is not oaked.
Not much smell. Some bitter tannin feel and dry fruit. OK.
