£19.99 Majestic
Lovely spicy aroma. Woody, spicy, warm, Merlot-led yumminess. Savoury, dry aftertaste, which is quite baked. Nice.

Mel,

Had the 2007 last night at a tasting.

Wow !! a really well made wine, superb nose that has plenty going on, lovely balance with soft tannins and a decent finish.

Dunc you must pop down and buy two !!

and a decent finish Fruit ? Rather than baked & drying like the '06 then....

Yeah, this right bank claret is on a very attractive gold label; The two reviewers on the wb page liked this St Em GC and gave multi stars.

This is now on offer at £8 off a pair

How soft was the 2007 ? Rich. 7's are softies, but on the right bank are fuller. If good quality & fresh oak is employed, I'm interested :) I'm due in to Majestic this week because they have the aged Mosel / Reisling parcels on tasting.

Cheers for that.

I was sorry that this right bank offer went OOS:- Château La Vieille Croix 2005, Fronsac with more body & tannic structure on the '05 - a reasonable punt for theoretical potential. At £10 off a pair, too pricey in the 1st place. However, I have not tried that Fronsac. So ......... ?

Dunc, still plenty of zip left to keep this going for a few years I guess.
It was drinking so well now though so my two bottles will not last long.

Hopefully they might have one open when you pop down ??

Drinking the cheap rioja I also bought last night called Viña Eguia.
Its ok for the money a good quaffer as we should say on here.

Viña Eguia - I know it, was drinking the 2006 last year, I've described this wine on here somewhere. It is best at one sitting - IMHO. Good quaffing price at the mo.

Thanks

Of the St Emilion, I'm def not wanting to keep this on the rack. It is not a keeper on the '07 vinatge. I was really enquiring about the oak and (not too soft, as it were) aspect of this wine. I will buy if the oak is a good - but not otherwise.

'07's St Em at this level, are probably at their peak till 2014 - no later.

cheers

Thanks.

You can't get a better recommendation than that. I have to buy two to get the 20% discount of course.

I've found this wine on the '07, which appealled more to the palate of those present, than other St. Emilion wines nearly double the price in a blind tasting.

The wine is: Chateau Grand Faurie La Rose.

The name then took me back nearly three decades, long before all this wretched Euro stuff and heavier taxes, to a Co-op in Pauillac. "La Rose" a brilliant source of affordable Pauillacs - NOT expensive, terriore driven wines !
