Boxing Day wines. If you are looking for a goumet, or 'foody' classic wine for lunch on Boxing day this year, this Brouilly will do the job.
Brouilly is fuller than most beaujolais village, and this one is fruity with a certain young and vibrant sweetness. Good length, concentration and easy ripeness to the Gamay that coats well on the palate, and not in the least fury in the mouth. This wine is unoaked and a welcome 12.5% ALC.
Predominantly black cherry and pippy hedgerow blackberries
Gamay style flavours, which I think will be great with cold duck or turkey legs and cold light unsalted meats, mushroom or liver pâté.
Please decant this wine into a carafe in the morning, it is very young, and will be fully open by the time you finally get around to your late Lunch ! If you find the 2009 vintage on the shelf, take that in preference. Both vintages are Decanter rated, I believe.
Good value for a classic, particularly if you can acquire this on the pre Christmas offers
