This wine is authentic, trouble is, the secondary pass fruit is not ripe enough. Full marks to Laboure' for not cheating [which is allowed in Burgundy] and adopted by many new world PN producers

This wine is very ordinary volnay 12% ALC - there is no Les Mitans 2006 1er cru decription printed on this cork, as written up by a review blogger on the Majestic site. The wine is fullish and quite a bit darker than ordinary Bourgogne.

On opening the wine has a reasonable, yet subdued nose, quite nice actually. The wine itself though, is rather hard, grainy, too savoury and a bit austere. Work on it for two or three hours and the wine does open and sweeten up a little. When open the wine is acceptable as a dinner wine with dark meats, stews and strong dry flavoured cheeses.

As an aperitif - you can't really go there - Unless you are a die-hard like me. Not silky at all, and still a bit too savoury and hard mouthed. Many people will not like this....So..... shell out a lot more for a riper and easier burgundy, if you want a Burgundy that is.

The '05 at a £1 less last year, is a better wine. This '08 offering from Laboure' is unlikely to go anywhere that positive with aging.

NB -----Look out for the '09, as given the growing season, that could be a satisfactory glass of burgundy rouge for the dosh
