My initial thoughts were it has a lot more body than the 08 Ligny we are familiar with, and although very clean, compared to the recent Jadot Macon's it seemed dull and one dimensional.

However, I drunk a small glass each day over several days and by the 5th and 6th I started to get some of that wonderful mouthfeel and increased minerality.

I'd be interested for someone with more experience to give this a try, because I think this could be really good in a year or two.

2009 Co-op wine will be simple, rather soft and sweet, but correct just now for a ripe vintage. The fruit was reported to be damn near perfect in many of the Chablis areas. The best grand cru and 1er sites had a brilliant harvest they say, hardly any sorting for the ordinary 1er cuvee, and brilliant top fruit for the grand marques

So - will this Co-op wine develop well ?

Looking at the negatives - in order to weigh-up the possibility of a positive ! Based on experience, the best growing seasons rarely produce a wine that deteriorates with the RIGHT amount of bottle age.

The Co-op in Chablis know what they are doing - did they shovel it in there ? Is the wine vigorous, and do you detect this one to be alive ? Rather than killed-off with fining chemicals ?

Paul, I know you like a good Chablis.
If I was in the pink just now, I'd be looking at what the small producers have made for 2009, (not the illustrious megga wealthy ones) just the guys who make good chablis, and survive on the quality and word of mouth reputation for their wines, which are enjoyed when bought in their part of France. It is there that the bargain stars could be found..........

It didn't fare too well.

I have one left so will see how it develops. Like I said it did not really come alive until it had been open for some time.

I am also wondering if Goose has tried the Waitrose Sancerre that was the panel's favourite.

'Domaine de la Motte' Rings a bell with someone?

Bumped into this domaine once on our travels to France.
Back then their 2003 Vieilles Vignes was sold for less than €10/bottle.
One of those unforgettable wines it was. Each Chablis I had since then was less in quality. You definitely know it when it is good !
Not on general sale in UK, but can be found here and there in independents.

Not tried the Waitrose Sancerre. I have had a few Joseoh Mellot Loire sauvs though, Sancerre-PF and basic Vin/Loire. Never been massively impressed or unimpressed. The best was Thresher's Radcliffe Pouilly Fume which was a fair effort but £13.99 bought far better elsewhere.
