This is fine if you can remember to open it early. Initially, there was a light smell of ripe pears and a little wet cardboard and sweeties. However, when we went back to it, it was beautifully catty. It had a sharply acidic taste, which I think many of us want on a Loire Sauvignon. It lasted well. The group liked this slightly more than the Premier Sauv from Sains.

I've done this wine on 11th March this year.

1st week on offer, straight out of the blocks at £4.99, very young and spritzy

It's probably calming down a bit now (the spritzy light sulphur whiff on immediate opening is subsiding to wet cardboard now ) And yes, a typical budget Loire SB that is good of its type because of a long dry Autumn at harvest.

Mel, did your team say anything else

I must smell some cardboard now, it is probably the faint whiff of caustic soda and predominant wet low grade Russian tundra pine species (like balsa - no resin) wood pulp they use in paper making.

It's a sulphur-related smell. Probably the glue that binds it together.
