Im really into smoked salmon at the moment, with anything. A hangover from Xmas.

Mix it with crème fraîche, lemon, dill and black pepper and spread it over warm baked bread rolls.

Yes, Yes and Yes....Yum.

Now what are we going to drink with this :D ?

When smoked a little too much, or a tad salty, it can throw you off a good sancerre. Tio Peppe, or a good fino are fine by me....harder, younger white Rioja ? I'm thinking here, on occasion when you have to make a quick switch. A good Muscadet can be better than an expensive Loire - - comments if you will.....excl. a Chablis

It's difficult to generalise with smoked salmon because one wine in a style might not work as well as another with the same appellation and smoked salmon alone is different from the delicious concoction you describe.

Actually, perhaps fizz. Bordeaux blanc? The green teardrop wine?

Yeah, that's right. Thanks Mel :)

Entre Deux Mers as well. Good EDM is almost forgotten in England these days.
The nice properties are probably too small to supply. The lovely fresh ones had a good splash of Muscadelle added, Lovely stuff when you could find it.

France.

Gascony, south west France

Cheers for that GK :) .

Anyone else want to come up with a switch alternative ? The scenario is that the salmon is a little more smoked than usual, or that the Salmon starter has turned out saltier than we wanted. which can happen.

Goose, you are not allowed to pick an expensive Loire, or decent Chablis.

Could you go as far as Aus Riesling. I have a different issue. three 14 year old girls. They want rose and I have none. "You call yourself a wine writer, mum, and you don't even have rose in the house".

We have loud music on and communal cooking with a lot of laughter. Great fun, but not everyone's idea of a Saturday night. Then Slumdog.

Couldn't be happier.

Well, not in the real world.

Ba, all sugestions are welcome, and the right Pinot Gris could be jolly good, could be hotter than usual. Fino is an option anyway.

Mel, we are up for Slumdog, and our dinner is scheduled to be ready by 9 pm sharp.

As for the rose - I also have none in stock other than one Spanish carva and one expensive shampoo - so even twerps like me have very little at this time of year.

That's the excuse, you will have to sell to the teenagers.....We don't keep fragile rose in stock at this time of year.

I have just got in from watching Cardiff beat Sale by 36-19 in the European Cup. We need a miracle to qualify for the 1/4's but still, always nice to thrash you saxons.

I am not into smoked fish although smoked haddock in the very best of fish pies is always good.

I would have thought a nice Hoit Poitou or Touraine would be a good match. If the salmon can handle or better still take away that bit of tartness you get with the lesser French wines.

I am having to drink Jacob's Creek sparkling Chardonnay/Pinot Noir rose.

What a pointless wine. Off dry with a bit of raspberry fruit and a very vague touch of yeast.

That yeast is far too vague.

This is Australian pop.

Yes, thank you Mr G for another suitable alternative. I didn't see the match, assuming Cardif were a bit lucky to score 36 points, or did they play well

Better end this thread with a bit of Rolf nonsense

Pop goes the w

I'm nearing the finish of a bottle of Mary Le Bow 2005, have poured carefully, and the silky mocha at the bottom of the tank is positively debauched.
