At last, a red that smells beautiful. (rather a dull start to the red section at Sains tasting) Ripe blackcurrants on the nose. Spicy, almost like chocolate in the mouth. Nice acidity. Woody finish. Much better buy than the Clement Pichon at £15.

Nearly 8 years later . . . . . and the 2010 vintage is available / has been available from Sainsbury. I missed the '09 Barreyres, so I was not reminded that this property particularly succeeds in riper years.

A pound off, and then the extra 25% discount last week at Sainsbury. Odd that this wine does not figure on their web site - Not listed ? BTW - the Clement Pichon is now £22.

I'm rather impressed, I bought another 5 bottles on Thursday 29/05/14.

This is probably the most successful vintage that Barreyres has ever produced. A feminine claret, not quite enough cab for me. 50% cab 50% merlot. A very good value cru bourgeois, 16.5 points from Steven Spurrier, who likes the more oppulent left bank styles, such as the luscious Gloria. I liked this wine, a jolly good QPR.

Very spicy, some dark chocolate & earth as Mel says, rather full-on just now, and I'm hoping it will mature with more complexity, but not overly oaky, rich and dark blackberry and ripe blackcurrant, just as it should be from this 2010 vintage, which produced very dark skinned small grapes from a summer that had very little rain from May to September.
This wine is now immediately approachable but with sufficient tannin from those dark skins to prop-up the merlot, glad I tried the wine on Bank holiday Monday with roast chicken. Spurred me on to acquire more. Now till 2019 I'd say, depending on cellar conditions, a little longer.

This stunning haut medoc vintage and the offer price last week, and an automatic :qofgold:

You're a rotten cad Mr. D.
Just got one, it's in the dark, I shall try to forget about it.

Sorry Mr B,
A rotten memory is more apropriate. Although I did mention the untried Ch. Barreyres on the Sains 25% thread. I only got back the day before, and was supposed to buy more of this wine on the way home, we got back very late.

Yeah, I know, I should have posted a TN on Thursday, before the 25% discount campaign expired - Sorry

Since you are now acquiring a few well bred reds - I'll get more up-to-date.
