What a lovely nose! Very biscuity. Full-flavoured, tangy and pretty long.  This is good.

PULIGNY MONTRACHET 2011 (£16.99, 75cl) 13% ABV
Blend: 100% Chardonnay
Region: A.O.C. Puligny Montrachet, Côte de Beaune, Burgundy, France

Attractive creamy oak on the nose. Quite an oaky taste, as you’d expect.  You’re not going to mix it up with a £40 Puligny, but this is like a good Pouilly Fuissé, I’d say. Great price. +

CHATEAU MARQUIS D’ALESME BECKER, GRAND CRU CLASSÉ 2004 (£22.99, 75cl) 13% ABV
Blend: 45% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Cabernet Franc, 10% Petit Verdot
Region: A.O.C. Margaux, Haut-Médoc, Bordeaux, France

Fragrant and very Margaux. Lovely, just lovely taste. Just exactly what you want.  Gentle tannins, wonderful fragrance and long flavour. Smashing wine.



TOKAJI ASZU 6 PUTTONYOS 2000 (£17.99, 50cl) 11.5% ABV
Blend: 75% Furmint, 25% Harslevelu
Region: Tokaji, Hungary

Barley sugar and tropical fruit nose.  This comes in a wooden presentation box for Christmas.  It’s beautifully luscious and like very ripe apricots fried in butter. Stunning.



30 YEAR OLD TAWNY PORT NV (£37.99, 75cl) 20% ABV
Blend: Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, Tinta Amarela, Tinta Barocca, Tinta Cao

Sweet, baked and absolutely lovely nose. Bright, alive and fabulous flavour.  Savoury, toasty, almost  like Marmite, but with syrup.  Mmmm
