The Society's Exhibition Moulin-à-Vent 2009
£9.50 13% The Wine Society
Such is the depth of flavour and quality of this 2009 Moulin à Vent, that it has needed a second winter.
Quite dark and moody. No strawberry, no cheap Beaujolais flavours. Perhaps rhubarb.
Fleurie Vieilles Vignes, la Roilette, 2009
£12.95 13% The Wine Society
Domaine Métrat
Lovely sweet-tasting Fleurie from old vines from a plot near Moulin-à-Vent, hence the fuller style.
Not a lot on the nose. Dry, savoury and with some structure. Again, not a hint of bubblegum.
Fixin, Louis Jadot 2006
£17.00 13.5% The Wine Society
Fixin is a lesser-known village in the Côte de Nuits, from which Jadot have produced a lovely little wine, with sweet tannins and a round palate. This has the seductive, round and caressing texture one might expect from a much more expensive wine.
Oh wow! The nose on this is so attractive after the two Antipodean pinots. The taste is deliciously savoury. There’s fruit, but it isn’t in your face. Beautiful balance, elegance and long flavour. Mmm.
Côte de Nuits Villages, 2006
£22.00 12.5% The Wine Society
Domaine Denis Bachelet
Intense, pretty, lifted fruit. Made from old vines, about 70 years old, in Brochon by a talented grower.
Lovely farmyardy nose. Typically structured. Darkly, moodily, spicy.
Vosne Romanée, Domaine Sylvain Cathiard 2006
£45.00 13% The Wine Society
Quintessential Vosne, wonderfully intense nose and sweet, round palate with a caressing, velvety texture.
Dark, concentrated fruit and some creaminess. Savoury and dry palate, with just enough fruit.
