We are now on the vintage 2006. I think it is lovely just now. Wild honey, ripe melon fruit and oak spice nose - classy indeed.
Bought mine when Tesco were clearing out their fine wines from the store in Henley.
Up the RP anti for 2.5 years later than Mel's TN, take off the discount and exactly £20 per bottle at the till.
So - Everything that Mel says in her TN except the vintage characteristic
Wine concentrated & weighty, yet also fresh and crystal 22 carat gold in the glass. Acidity slightly lower than '04 I believe. The minerality here was exceptional, there on the middle palate for all to enjoy. It didn't need the typical acidity lift to show of its best. The terroir minerality was right there, dead centre, in the middle of beautiful honeyed fruit, and lovely harmonious oak that was gently spicy and sophisticated.
Everything in harmony, lovely body, lovely feel in the mouth, never cloying or over heady. This is Cote d'Or chardonnay from the riper Puligny domaines.
Impressed with this, and so were the hosts and another guest, consumed during a main course vegetarian lunch.
If you have it in your cellar rack at home, in the cool, drink the remaining bottles by the end of 2012. don't hang about -
use it or lose it .......unless you have a wine cooler running all thru the summer.
