I bought 3 of these Tesco Finest NSGs quite a while back, when they were clearing fine wines from bigger stores.

On Boxing day 2009 the wine was sleeping, but had a nice farmyard note and very savoury, good with cold chicken though.

Last night I opened the last one 5th April 2011 - end of the tax year, and I needed a possible treat. We were having vegetarian shepherds pie, so a particular choice of wine was called for.

I got a treat alright. The 2004 NSG was typically light as with the vintage, but lovely farmyard on 1st opening. Nice earthy character but a little soft, attractive sunset rim.

2nd Glass .....Yummy - Lovely forest floor and vineyard character, the acidity had come up as well, so the combination of mature pinot, forest floor, acidity, and earthy mineral was lovely - less savoury, the fruit was singing now, and lifted by that acidity. A charming and more elegant and agile style of NSG. Yep, I prefer this vintage style to 4 square NSG at similar money + inflation

A bargain and opened in a narrow, yet perfect drinking window for this wine. I get them right sometimes, and when I do, I am rewarded for keeping my itchy fingers off.

I can't give this any awards - cos you cant buy it now, and Tesco aren't doing any TF village burgundies anymore, and you must have kept this wine for 3 years or so, in decent cellaring conditions. So that is the last of them :(

One out of 3 a star, the other two nice, but not ready.
