Anyone had anything from Giigal recently ??
I used to love this wine and it over-performed for the price,
But then came the hard mouth '06s
Mel we have reviewed a few good and ripe '07's while you were partly out of action. Bonpas 07 for £4.49 was exceptional value
Beleruche 07 a ripe NW style from Chapoutier - very easy, but not stupid.
Plan de Papes '07 good and excellent value when found for a fiver
Guigal '05 firmer and not quite so imediately seductive - but good keeping.
Perrin village Reserve '07 very nice indeed, but nearly £11
Waitrose Vinsobles (spelling) cellar de Dauphin '07 quite nice as well
Rich - I dont have any Guigal '06 in my cellar. That tells me I did not want to keep any. The ole memory says - it was hard and too dry and savoury early on. So the fruit falls off and you get a real puckering as an Apero - why bother when other '07s are on the go.
However, things do sometimes turn favourable........
Of the Guigal CdR '06 - Rich, please report back here if you pick one - if only to confirm my suspicions or
Otherwise
Waitrose were trying to move a huge quantity of the '06 here at my local, mixed into with their
mediteranean week.
I also want to know if the Guigal 07 is ripe like the earlier released brands we have sampled. Then you just might have something nearer to the 98's but 'a point earlier.
