There was a little trepidation as we walked to my hosts stone floor larder, and dusted this off. It is very cool in there and on the north side of the house. A debate springs up, and he wants me to go thru his racks and pick a white that is ready.
I was not sure of the 2001 - but my treppidation was soon to be totally unfounded.

My host put the wine in the fridge door, while we straightened our backs and dusted the cobwebs from our eyebrows
1/2 hour later, we opened the bottle and the cook was in great condition, no mold or damness under the straw coloured foil. Then poured 4 glasses.

At first, I was still muttering that we could have missed this for 2007/08, after all it's only a standard P. Fuissé from Jadot.

The wine exhibited a faint sweet hay bouquet (very nice and inviting, actually), but the pale flowers & melony & honied oak whiffs were very nicely present.
I take a good slurping sip - "Hmmnn" this has evolved beautifully, lovely and creamy, well integrated and ever so subtle light oak, fresh with minerally notes as well - Yum.

I was wrong - this could be together in those conditons for nearly 10 years, and what's more - it tasted way above it's price positioning - A star.

I am reminded again, how lovely these Fuissé wines can be.

Tip - Wait for a good vintage and grab this when the offers are around:

For this sort of evolution - good storage conditions a MUST

There is something of the night about you Mr. D.

Following the Zundapp coincidence, I was, today, given a bottle of this (2007) in my xmas box from the club. Says "drink within 8 yrs" on the label....reckon I can manage that.

Enjoy Mr B - Your Bridge Club ?
Please give it enough time to come round. The very common lemony bits subside with some bottle age, and a creamier, light
vanilla oak with subtle ripe melon with only a citrus note come to the fore. An altogether more sophisticated flavour evolves.

BTW - 1) The tasting note at Big T is clearly faulty for an evolved wine, 2) the 2 year storage advice is only correct, when standing next to the cooker/kitchen cupboard 3) The wine is not category 1 for dryness. 4) When evolved it is a 2 coming on to a 3. They do talk a load of b.......

Something of the night ? - I think I'm flattered - don't say otherwise

Yeah, my hardest day of the year. Nuts...crackers... oh and silly hats too. They usually give me 6 from behind the bar. This year I asked if it could be 3 of something nicer, and all white. NO red. Whatsoever. At all. NONE.

I got 4. The Fuissé, a Chablis, a cheapish new world char...... and an '07 Chateaubloodyneuf !!!

CNdP Blanc 2007 - How interesting. Nice people, your club folks. Give the CNdP a bit of time - which one ?

I'll take that 07 CNdP off you. It's 007 so Ok even at basement level.

This is however more interesting. One wonders if the 20% Oak and very bright acidity was enough to keep this going :?:

I wonder if this has survived if stored at 40 to 45F or so.

Yet more coincidence. This is the first of Mel's Tesco Xmas Bunch.
