Ch Suduiraut 2007, Sauternes
Deeply, richly honeyed, with some grapefruit aroma. Tropical, melon, heavy aroma. Grapefruity, fresh and definitely sweet but not cloying at all. Tangy and almost like a Tokaji. “2007 is a great Sauternes year, marked by this wonderful freshness.” 130 g/l RS.
Ch Suduiraut 2005, Sauternes
Less forward on the nose than the 2007. Less opulent. Still ripe and honeyed. Rich, full, heavy, rolling round the mouth. It has a fresh finish, but not in the way of the 2007. Good, but not great. 165 g/l RS
Ch Suduiraut 2003, Sauternes
Heavy, almost oily aroma with some mandarin. Tangy, mandarin and a little marmalade. The pithy finish seems short. 126 g/l RS. 14%
Ch Suduiraut 2001, Sauternes
Very botrytis on the nose. Quite rubbery and rotten, with some over-ripe mandarin. Heavy, honeyed and with a tangy mandarin finish. Lovely. Really excellent. Hard to decide whether this, or the 2007, is better. 150 g/l RS. 14%
Ch Suduiraut 1999, Sauternes
Darker golden. Dark, dried apricot aroma. Dried apricots, bubbled in honey, in the mouth. Some tang. Very ripe and tropical finish, with some vintage marmalade.
Ch Suduiraut 1970, Sauternes
Amber/orange colour. Barley sugar nose. Quite savoury, almost stinky. Much less heavy, sugary. Quite dry and definitely with some oxidation (fair enough). Savoury, baked, muscovado flavours. Don’t like it as much as the younger wines. The alcohol leads. Bitter vintage marmalade on the finish. 71 g/l RS
