100% Sauvignon Blanc. Situated at the mouth of Marlborough's Awatere Valley, Clifford Bay's cool climate has an intensifying effect on varietal flavours in the vineyard. The fruit is selected from a mix of moderate to low yielding sites with a range of vine age and viticultural techniques. All bunches were destemmed prior to stainless steel tank fermentation. The wine was allowed to mature on its lees for two months when gentle fining and filtration took place prior to bottling in August 2008. There was no malolactic fermentation. Winemaker ~ Alistair Maling MW. DWWA 2009 - Silver, IWC 2009 Bronze. Interesting smell. Like a gooseberry fool, perhaps. Quite creamy. Creamy, very full-flavoured and with spice. The alcohol is borderline for me. Just a little warm. A good wine, though. New, available now, 85 stores, screw cap13.5% 14/10/2009
