65% Shiraz, 25% Grenache, 5% Mourvèdre and 5% Viognier grown in the Barossa. Named after Henry Evans who planted the first 7 acres of vineyards at Keyneton in 1853. The vineyard is in the east of the Barossa Valley, at an altitude of 500m, and the grapes are grown on well drained soils of sandy loam over gravel. They are effectively dry grown, although drip irrigation is used in drier years. Warmer than usual autumnal weather caused an early, compact harvest of above average yields. Harvested 20th March to 17th May 2005 . Shiraz/Viognier co-fermented 8-10 days on skins with open submerged cap at 24-28°C. Grenache hand-plunged. 15 months in 2nd and 3rd fill French oak. Winemaker Stephen Henschke.

A bit stinky. Sweetly fruit flavour. Quite nice, baked Shiraz spice. Fragrant finish. Alc 15%, TA 6.14g/l. pH 3.6, RS 0.7g/l. Available from Wine Direct and 192 branches.
