100% Pinot Noir, this is the red partner to the Chardonnay, from Schroeder's near-organic estate in San Particio del Chanar, northern Patagonia (near Neuquen). At 350m, sandy/rocky soils, with a climate that features extreme diurnal temperature fluctuations meaning very good growing conditions for the Pinot Noir. Alpataco is the name of the thorny bush plant that is frequently seen here. Malo in tank and barrel. 40% aged 12 months in new French and American barrels.
Nice low key label. A very young, raw Pinot smell – not terribly inviting. Juicy and fruity, but not exciting. Alc 13.5%, TA 5.2g/l, pH 3.6. Available from Wine Direct and 192 branches. 15/10/2008
