100% Gamay Noir, harvested March 2008 at a yield of 36hl/ha from Te Mata Estate's Woodthorpe Vineyard on the south bank of the Tutatekuri River, 13km inland from Napier. Vines are planted on a succession of elevated terraces with sandy loam soil over deep river gravels. 60% carbonic maceration, 40% warm, plunged, traditional ferment, all in stainless steel tanks. Suitable for vegetarians. Winemaker Peter Cowley.

Cherry red colour. Very fresh and fruity on the nose. Very refreshing, light and lovely, but £11 is cheeky. Alc 12.5%, TA 5.40g/l, pH 3.50. Available from Wine Direct and 178 branches.
