Made for Tesco by Villa Maria Estate Limited, from 72% Merlot, 22% Cabernet Sauvignon 3% Cabernet Franc and 3% Other. Following pressing and malolactic fermentation, the wine was moved to seasoned French and American oak, where it spent the next 12 months maturing. In keeping with the highest quality philosophy of the Tesco Finest range, Tesco have teamed up with top New Zealand winery Villa Maria to produce their Finest Hawkes Bay Merlot Cabernet Sauvignon. Villa Maria make New Zealand's most awarded wines and are the largest NZ winery that is still family owned by a New Zealander. The grapes for this wine were sourced from New Zealand's premium red wine growing region, Hawkes Bay, which enjoys the ideal climate for ripening red varietals.
Ripe, cassis aroma, with spice. Ripe redcurrant fruit in the mouth, with some prickle, which I don’t like on red wine. Juicy and refreshing, but quite raw. 13.5%
