Made for Tesco by Baron de Ley. The wine is aged in new American oak barrels for 20 months and then matured for a further 24 months in bottle before product is released to the consumer. Currently the IWSC Spanish wine producer of the year, the Baron de Ley winery was founded in 1985 by a small group of Rioja wine professionals who started a project to showcase the innovative and unique characteristics of this prestigious DOCa.
Less attractive nose than the Viña Mara above. Some oak, but reluctant for Rioja. Quite a chocolatey flavour, with sweet and evolved fruit, some vanilla and smooth tannins. Good, but I’d have liked more aroma. 13.5%
