Made for Tesco by Kuehn Vins d’Alsace. 8 grams/litre residual sugar. Situated on east/south-east facing slopes on chalky clay soils, the vineyards are 20-40 years old. Harvested late, grapes are selected by hand and machine, crushed & pressed prior to natural clarification. Fermented in glass tanks and stainless steel for 2-5 weeks. The Baron de Schielé, wine grower & broker, founded Vins d'Alsace Kuehn in 1675; some of the original cellars from this time are still in use today. Partially destroyed during WWII, the upper part of the winery was rebuilt by Rene Kuehn, then mayor of Ammeschwihr, and this building still houses the winery today. Kuehn own 12 hectares of vineyards, half of which are classified as Alsace Grands Crus and has other winegrowers under contract. Reluctant nose. Just a hint of richness on the palate. Rather good value. Long, intense flavour, lower alcohol and lasts well. 12% (598 stores) 27/06/08
