Toasty oak on nose. Very dry and a bit hard. Perhaps needs some time. Not sure it has the balls to be great.

Mel, can you recall how much this originally sold for?

In my local Morrisons this morning there were half-a-dozen of these on the clearance rack at £3.99. The bottles and labels were a touch grimy, maybe they were found buried in the store-room.

I risked one bottle to try but your note doesn’t look promising.

I do like a good white Burgundy and Meursault Le Meurger 2002 (£14.99, Morrisons) is just that, with a squeeze of lime acidity and a dollop of oak making it a really substantial mouthful. Ripe, rich and savoury - it's immense.

Am going near a Morrisons this afternoon - sounds great!

I don't have the tasting sheet, as the desk can't hold 3 years' worth of ring bound booklets. The current price list says £14.99

You can always take it back if it's dire!

My Morrisons doesn't have it reduced. Well, in fact, it's £13.99, rather than the list price of £14.99, but nothing drastic. Let me know how it tastes.

I returned for the other five bottles on the way home, decided to take the risk before some other savvy buyer spots them. Like you say, I can always return them if they turn out bad in any way.

I have one in the fridge for when I get home, coincidently, my neighbour knocked last night, he had spent the day fishing and handed over a fresh trout (in return for his usual small fee).

I got a biscuity nose, it needed a good swirl to open up any aromas (and a little warming in the glass, it came out the fridge colder than necessary).
Rich, steely, fabulous acidity, almond, honeyed, lime zest-almost Semillon like. Still young.

What a find! I’m delighted :wink:

I am so, so jealous. The PR bloke at Morrisons was confused and slightly worried by the price you got it for. Labels don't look £10 worth of damaged.

I was drinking it when I posted last night, now I have removed my rose-tinted-glasses and can say it’s not a perfect wine. It came across as quite firm and angular, masculine, not rounded or delicate. I guess this is true to the style for the region and hope it will mellow out with further aging. I have stuck them in the bottom of the rack and will drink one each year over the next five years.

A few weeks ago I also picked up this in the clearance rack at Morrisons for £5.49.-
Chateau Labat, 20 Sadons, Cru Bourgeois, 1999, Haut-Medoc, 12.5%
Cabernet Sauvignon 50% merlot 50%

I have searched the web but found very little, someone on another forum suggested that it was the second wine for a certain estate, cant remember which, the forum is now off-line.

Anywho, the wine is drinking lovely, soft, leathery tannins, head and shoulders above my recent dable with Supermarket Bordeaux (some ’05 Tesco online deal, Ch Clos Renon).

Do you know anything about the ’20 Sadons ‘99’? anything in your notes?

Firstly, I wouldn't keep the Meursault that long. Even the great white Burgs, made by fabulously clever and famous producers become old very quickly. I would say 12-15 years for the real stars is about max. This, being a £14 wine from Morrisons probably doesn't have anything like that lifespan. Would be interesting to try another bottle in 6-9 months and keep notes. As soon as the colour changes and it tastes nutty and (quite frankly) a bit oxidised, you need to get drinking.

Don't know the claret you mention. Presumably you've done a google search. It's not in their current price list. I could ask the PR team, but they're on the young side and may have trouble remembering wines from last month, never mind older ones.
