100% Pinot Noir. Grapes from their prime vineyard site, the Centgrafenberg vineyard at Burgstade, Franconia, on south-facing slopes just below their house and wine cellars. Soil is weathered sandstone with loam and all vineyard work is done by hand. Vines are up to 40 years old with a yield of 40hl/ha. Pre-fermentation maceration on the skins for 20 days at 10-33°C, followed by spontaneous fermentation in open cuves with pigeage and pumping over. Basket pressed and aged in mostly French oak (40% new) for 16 months. Bottled Spring 2008. Winemaker Paul Fürst. Very pale. Smells more like New Zealand Pinot – like own label Kola. Lovely balance and freshness in the mouth. Warm, but not hot. Price compares well with Burgundy. Alc 13.5%, TA 4.9g/l, pH 3.5, RS 1.6g/l. Available from Wine Direct and 3 branches.
