Fuller, ripe, oakier and more savoury than the Clou d’Orge. A much more obviously inviting wine. Sweetly oaky and very savoury. Lasts well.

Yes agreed, the 2002 was a much riper vintage than the 2006 in ladoix anyway.

I don't particularly rate 2006 for Cote d'Or rouge, the whites are lovely though, fresh with a cut to the palate. Maybe 2006 suits red burgundy at prices over £20 per bottle, dont buy cheap ones, they wont excite you.

Look for the Domaine Chevalier Gevrey Chambertin 2005 at Maj, it was the same money for a few months and a very nice wine indeed.

Cheers Mel, you were up late last night, do you download remotely ?

The Dom Chevalier Gevrey was consumed with slow arger ovened Aubergine bake with a crusty cheese topping, roast potatoes and home grown runner beans.

This Gevrey, (the other bottles being laid down), were bought with the express intention of deciding where it was going. It was quite firm and meaty with the above strong flavours of the supper, and had good length and a lovely damson and tue pinot flavour typical of the terroir, and super in the mouth.

For drinking as many people do these days as an apperatif, I'd say 2011 to 2015. Your tasting notes are great Mel, really good and spot on.

Are you ever able with your recommended wines to say what the prospects will be for lovers of ready (mature) Burgundy with complexity and dimension and a more LUSCIOUS uncious flavour and some affordable Clarets. I have found that the exceptional bargains reveal themselves after several years of careful storage.

I was chatting to a friend on Monday in a sort of "what am I going to do, I've got too much work and no time" way, and she said why not get the kids to upload your tasting notes.

I type them all as I taste, onto a laptop, but they have to be inserted, individually into a forum box. The date of tasting needs to be added and the price and supplier put in the title, which all takes time. Plus correcting typos.

At the moment I'm tasting 200-300 a week and so they're really mounting up.

Amelia (age 13) has put 320 of them in since Tuesday night, at 10p a shot.

The relief is enormous!

Amelia is a darling for sure. You have increased her pocket money - Also her spelling is good and knowledge of wines with unusual spelling etcetera -
Crikey - tasting 250 or so a week !

NB, I've given this wine a star. I had tasted the wines for JancisRobinson.com and so had had to give them scores/20 rather than stars and when they were loaded up they didn't have QO stars, so now I've righted that little glitch.

I'm jolly pleased that you rate this Domain Chevalier, and you like the 2002 Cote d'Or vintage that I have already harped on about in neighbouring northern 1er Beaune's. I did investigate Chevalier before I shelled out for the 2005 Gevrey Cham for laying down

2002 was good all over adjoining Auxey D. and Aloxe Corton, where I shelled out for 6 x 1er's from Domaine Vincent Escalier. It is good when a professional taster comes up with discoveries that I have already sussed out for myself. I also found the Marsannay 2002 from the souther tip of Cote d'Or from Dom Alain Guyard amazing also, and for £9 -10 when you look around everywhere.

I think both Dom's Escalier and Chevalier will give Nick Potel a run for his money and are generally better value.

Well Mel, it appears that I have similar taste buds to yours - I'm amazed that you know what to look for in 1000's of wines ? I have specialised in a very few traditional French regions and still know very little.

I think we shall see more parcels of 2002 coming out of English shippers woodwork as the credit crutch begins to bite.
