Laroche may now have wineries and vineyards all around the world but Chablis remains very much its home base. Laroche owns 100ha of Chablis vineyards, which include a staggering 30ha of Premier Cru vines and 6ha of Grand Cru. Wine writer Andrew Jefford calls Laroche the benchmark for Blanchots Grand Cru, with the flagship Reserve de l'Obedience sourced from two tiny plots of old vines in this vineyard and lavished with 100% barrel fermentation and no shortage of new oak.
Nutty smell, and something sweetly, headily foreign. Full, fruity and very appealing. This is lovely. Make sure you get the 2002, if you're wanting to impress at a dinner party, as this surely will. VG
