Lovely white burg nose. Wouldn't necessarily put it straight into Chablis from the nose. Surely there's some oak. Very savoury taste, almost salty. Would be good with so many starters. This is lovely.

Deep yellow. Deep, heavy nose, with some tropical fruit - I know, who'd have thought, on Chablis. Heavy, rich, oily taste. I really wouldn't have put this in Chablis. It's beautiful.

Light, pineapple and pear drops nose. Bitter taste with saccharine fruit. Not great.

Pleasant, creamy nose. A touch of texture, quite light body, clean and dry.

Blason de Bourgogne St Veran 2009, 10.49, Tesco
Deep colour. Lightly fruity nose. Quite tangy acidity. Not oaky at all, The alcohol seems warm but only admits to 13%.

Little on the nose. Dry white wine. Nothing more. The price is way out, but perhaps it'll get better with age and will be discounted. Perhaps.

I love the label on this wine. Pale lime greenish - draws me to it. Mmm, lovely nose. There's a lot of oak on the palate, as expected. It is lovely. Long and bright flavour. Exciting.

Odd, overripe fruit nose. Tastes a bit dirty. Not my thing at all.

Hot country nose. Tastes very southern and spicy. Needs food and could be wonderful with perhaps couscous with roasted veg and coriander, say.

Peapoddy sauvignon on the nose. Quite sweet. Lovely peapoddy flavour with bright acidity.

Minervois Blanc, , Tesco
Ripe nose. Very rich and spicy. Heavy with sweet fruit and yet savoury. It's good.

This wine is still drinking beautifully in July 2012. So chassagne like !

Surely there's some oak. Very savoury taste, almost salty That attribute is so sought after by me, because with this one it is almost bi-polar, in as much that the mid palate has honeyed and hazel nutty notes when warmed in the mouth.
When on offer, for me, this wine is one of the most elegant white wine deals I have scored for many years, and deserves 2 stars for QPR. When served fashionably cool, that salty mineral element is right up there with entry level Montmains GC.

.....so, I have nothing to compare my simple chardonnays to. You and MrD probably won't think much of the St Veran Les Monts 2009 at Marks either.

Next time someone says to me ' have you tried Oyster Bay it's fabulous ' I shall assume that they have never had a Jackson Estate or a Saint Clair and be more diplomatic.

Macon can change from month to month. The cheaper ones can be pretty good for a while, and then drop off suddenly. Others have bottle varriance, At this price point, I always Rejoice when they hit the spot, but I dont get fussed if they dont, so I will not buy a case, unless planning on drinking it every other day ! - Well ya know this stuff.

For Saint Veran - I'm with this, for a little treat

BTW - The Sainsbury Mersault '08 Closerie des Alisiers, was pretty good as well. Found a few on clearance, about same price as SC PB Went for the clearance offer, after reading this:

100% Chardonnay grown around the village of Meursault (predominantly Clos des Meix Chavaux and Monthélie pre Demange) on clay and limestone soils at an altitude of 200m. The old vines are harvested by hand and the alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel vats starts spontaneously thanks to the natural yeasts. Malolactic fermentation is completed in oak barrels. The wine ages
for 14 months in barrels (20% new oak) before being bottled. Residual sugar: <2g/l.

Served quite cold and not smelling much. God, I wish I were very, very rich and could drink this every day of the week. It is absolutely lovely.
