Tasted 24th March 2011

Rosalind Pinotage Rosé, Painted Wolf 2010 £ 6.95
South African Jeremy Borg gained winemaking and marketing experience in the UK and USA. His focus is on Rhône varietals and pinotage, sourced from low yielding, unirrigated vineyards in Paarl and Swartland. 13%
Fresh strawberry on the nose. Tangy and refreshing. Nice summer wine. Sweet label.

Moscato d'Asti DOCG, Elio Perrone 2010 £ 6.75
Odd label. Smells and tastes of roses. Sweet and delicious. Like the juice of a summer fruit salad. 5%

The Society's Fino Sherry £ 5.95
Our new Fino is sourced from Sánchez Romate. Appley scent with excellent depth of flavour. Now with a screwcap to better preserve the freshness. 15%
In a screwcap!! Marmitey nose. Standard fino but with marmite on the finish. Wonderfully refreshing with perhaps liquorice on the end.

Maribel Amontillado £ 7.50
Made exclusively for The Society by Sánchez Romate 19%
Just a touch of caramel on the nose and the merest hint of residual sugar in the mouth. Caramelly and fabulous. Slightly burnt and salty finish. Yum. *

Botaina Amontillado £11.50
Botaina is the superb, hazelnut-scented Amontillado produced from Fino La Ina when its flor is allowed to die off. La Botaina is now, we estimate, about 12 years old, and more delicious than ever. 18.5%
Dry, yet caramelly nose. Roasted nut taste. Bone, bone dry.

Cayetano del Pino Palo Cortado Viejisimo 1/5 £20.00
(bottled by Romate)Pure, exquisite wine from an almacenista specialising in Palo Cortados. Beautiful hazelnutty aromas combine with vanilla from the long cask ageing. Estimated age 30 years. Exclusive to The Wine Society. 21%
Sweet, but not particularly appealing, nose. Possibly brown sugar. Bone dry and a bit more burnt and dry on the finish than previous wines.

Nice stuff in the Society's portfolio.

Glad you changed the heading from Virgin Wines - I was paying attention today  Mel - you did one hell of a lot of work on 24th March, and I haven't counted them all. So difficult to evaluate that many..... on the trot

Hoped I'd changed the Virgin Wines bit in time. Do you have nothing better to do? TBF, is there anything better to do?
