Bordeaux Blanc Sec
Catty and very appealing nose. Quite phenolic, almost chewy, but fresh and catty – typical of the meatier styles of Sauvignon.

Had a pair delivered this week. Still '08 but on offer at £6.99.
I've always enjoyed the No.1 and this is my first GC. There is still a dash of phenol, but at this concentration it adds a layer to the other SB attributes, rather than trying to mask them as in some other wines. I think that this needs to be quite cold to be at it's best. Where is the '09? Could be special.

Ba, I couldn't agree with you more.

They have to clear the '08 vintage.

The big retailers in the UK hammer the producers, and sterling is still crap against the euro despite Greece !

When France has an exceptional vintage, such as '09 all over the northern and Bordelaise regions, france can easily find others in the global market who will pay rather more for the annual '09 contracts. I doubt the big players commit themselves that far ahead. Many of them treat our own farmers very badly.

France keeps the best for itself, they are not fools, or massive premiums everywhere and en primeur.

When looking for value, I am concered that these exceptional wines may not go into the Dourthe or Calvet or other brand cuvees, and many producers will bottle under their own labels - How many hectares of vineyard are owned by Dourthe ?

The supermarkets and brand negociants who slam the producers, get their "cum uppance" in bountiful years.

Remember all that indifferent '04 claret on expensive prestige labels in Brit supermarkets

We hope I'm wrong.....I need to be more upbeat - blame GK for this

You won't, double-Cheltenham encrypted. Oh! and I cheated, it's Dionysos not Bacchus.

This is getting better and more complicated as it cools. The phenol is retreating but still adding a teeny background hit. 'shrooms in butter and a little forest floor now. A definite plus after several recent minuses.

It's a nice wine - lets hope the '09 comes through and properly represents the quality of the vintage.

Still have a few '08 left and this one is magic. Will take a chance with 2 more although I think they might be either glorious or ----. Am awaiting (still) the '09

Right little cracker on the '09. Not quite the awe-inspiring drop that I wanted but nice indeed. I do like this Dourthe outfit. Has never let me down despite a wide range.
