Majestic £6.99 or Buy 2 bottles save £3 £5.4Cork
ABV: 13.5%

Very, very fragrant. Dark, purply fruit smell. Minty flavour. Quite exciting for the price.

Opened a bottle of this tonight.

It has a great colour with purple hues. A wonderful smell too. I can't put my finger on it. Purply fruit sounds good but what is it exactly :?. The mouthfeel is typically Malbec which is like silk on the tongue. I think it is a large part of the appeal and I think Argentinian Malbec has a very bright future indeed.

I've been very lucky recently to have enjoyed a run of really good quality wines for bargain prices and this is another one of them.

With this one, I actually did, but you are quite right in pointing out how much this site helps in finding value for money (and quality with it) wine.

Well Done Mel and everyone else who contributes.

Sorry Dunc, I don't understand. What do you want to know?

Cheers

he's asking wether you have a particular region or grape that you are particularly knowledgable in.

Like where Dunc's got a lot of burgundy experience and Goose is our resident MSB & sancerre man, Pontac is our SA man and Bacchus is our resident p!ss head ;)

Another reasonable Malbec that I think gives the Alamos a run for its money is Finca Flichman's Misterio Malbec that retails for about £5 and sometimes £4 at Morrisons.
It says Oak Aged on the label but actually only spends 4 months in oak and then 3 in the bottle before releas.
Had a glass the other night before travelling to NY but didn't get to write a note on it.
Will see what it's like after 4 days vacu vin'd (if Mrs Shez hasnt drunk it already) Have another bottle at home anyway if so

If you can though, I'd say splash out the extra 2 pounds for their Gestos Malbec which is sold at Maj which has an extra dimension from more time in oak.

I don't really have a speciality I'm afraid when it comes to wine. I have a little knowledge here and there.

There is one area that I do consider myself to be very knowledgable but it is the grain rather than the grape.

I will look out for those Malbec's you have reccomended, Shezza. Another Malbec of note is M&S Tupungato which has Cabernet added to it. This is really good and I have just found out that it is made by Decanter's Wine man of the year 2009 Nicolas Catena who makes this (Alamos) and obviously Catena (Zapata).

I think Tesco Finest (or is it Sains TTD?) Malbec is or cetainly used to be produced by Catena too.

Think I've yet to try anything bad from that stable
Try Catena Alta if you ever get a chance (sometimes on offer at £20 from £25) Cab sav, Chard and Malbec are all tremdous on past vintages I've tasted

Beer or spirit?

I enjoy a nice beer/ale. Morrisons are/were selling 500ml bottles of Asahi for £1, very nice, dry, clean and very little gas. I stocked up.

Cask? Landlord & Abbot.
Bottle? Brakspear Oxford Gold (and lots more).

All recco's most welcome.

Beer. Although I do enjoy a good malt whisky

As it happens I came across a new beer yesterday while at Waitrose. It was on offer at £1.43 a bottle

Skinner's Betty Stogs bitter - reccomended if you like a balanced ale. It's got bitter in the name but its more of a Cornish Ale. Nice and malty and lightly hopped. Very nice.

Cheers.

I lean towards the more fruity ales, not keen on the bitter's, I like a dash of sweetness, its the port drinker in me, I have a sweet tooth.

Will check this out at the weekend.
