Hi,
Anyone ever had a Maitre from the Estournel estate ??
I know they changed the name to Bordeaux Estournel in later years.Thinking of buying a 1975 vintage to try. Any thoughts
Richard
Yes.
Maitre was written up in old journals as the house wine of Bruno Pratts and his family, and then they develpoed it more from various parcels in Saint Estephe, that he has acquired an interest in, and certain growers who did not have the facilities.
The 89 was bloody lovely..........last one finished at Xmas 2003 or 04 I think. Beautiful and lush and sensual, yet deep inside with layers of cedar, spice and fresh ground black pepper. The skill of the master was blindingly evident.
Care to say where you have found this. Also the 75 is there enough structure to hold it ? Please say some more
If it helps a bit the '89 was amazingly fruity and full and deep for a Petite Chateau at 14 years. Memorable sweet bretty nuts and cigar leaf tobacco and figgyness, lovely complete flavour - no drying out or laceyness at all.
It is likely that the older vintages are the real M'Coy from Estephe and possibly nearby Pauillac parcels.
