Last Year Mel and I rated the wine noted and underlined below, which had a proportion of Cab Franc as well as the malbec. This time last year on the Sains 25% for 6 campaign offers the wine below was noted as OZ red. Mel gave it a star, which here at Quaffers' is a pretty decent wine, and is a true mark of QPR, I was in total agreement with that assessment
Chateau Tanunda Oz red blend (claret mix + malbec splash) 2012 - £9.00 net of all discounts.
The wine in the subject title is a shadow of its former self. It is £2 cheaper and Sains had to put another discount on the wine to make the offer at £8.00, and £6 net for the 25% for 6 campaign, to clear stocks.
The label and bottle and screw cap are the same. The wine is not. At first I thought the wine was a tad young, then I thought the Cab franc lifted the previous 2012 vintage into another league. I attempted to age it over 3 days to see if any development would improve this wine's depth and the overall flavour.
No, I'm affraid not. Sorry Sainsbury, this does not "properly" make it into the TTD stable, nor Quaffers choice, and for £3 less, the wine is not a bargain. Side step is my message.
I do enjoy the Cab Franc profile, and to lift and fill out the merlot flavour profile . . . . so that tempers my opinion for other readers here.
