This is made by Jean Claude Fromont, and a notch up from his generic mix that we know as ** Chateau de Ligny.
There is a single domaine Baillard outside the town, I checked on google before buying. J C Fromont also makes for a 1er in Beauroy and other properties in the Rhone as well. He appears to be a non owning producer, and has a few top dogies in his cellar offers, including a grand cru Vaudesir
The wine is a ** notch up in terms of chablis demarcation, and on a very decent vintage. I'm through the 2nd bottle now. The wine displays citrus, grapefriuit, pith and chalk minerality, pretty light and made in the modern racy style; So you'd think I'd be very pleased indeed for a potential posh house white, that I would have re-ordered on Saturday morning.
There is something bothering me - I'm getting a perceived as "soapy preservative" note on the finish that is bugging me. It lessens the next day and it lessens when cooler. It manifests itself as with dodgy pith, and possesses a very mild bitter twang that is slightly off putting. Guests this evening did not notice at all - they are not chablis analysts
I shall keep the remainder - to see if it passes, but it is a drink young, as soon as integrated Chablis, and there is no oak or leesy character to carry it forward.
Pity.....I like the refreshing style a lot.
