Hawkes Bay,
I had several SB's on the '09 from Hawkes Bay during the Summer. They were overpriced when on full retail.
Of the one I have commented on here - about £10 quid : This tasted in June this year:
Mission Estate SB greenmeadows 2009 from oldest winery in Hawkes Bay and in NZ. This wine is quite Loire on steroids in style. It needs loads of time, like one or two ripe Haut Poitou. It has good texture, with a sappy end note that is not integrated with the flavour and appears at first glass a little sour - particularly - if you'd just finished the dregs of a bottle of the Ned. I reckon it will come round in 12 months. Just now, the note is like pulling up ground elder in Spring - sappy
Re-visited on Tuesday 9/11/10, I'm not bothering to wait. The sour note , sappy elder root is not integrating like a Loire one could, and the fruit is one dimensional lime - just "juices-up" ya gums, ya know ! Still good texture though.
More like Haut Poitou cheapo now, and going down. The wine was What ! Can't be bothered to describe - Can't get excited.
They can Hawke it elsewhere for the dosh (£5.99 tops for cutting thru oily & over cheesey fish sauce). One more bottle to waste racking space on - label looks expensive - Duh.
