Brouilly is one of the most popular of the 10 Beaujolais crus or villages. Being the most southerly, its wines have vibrant berry-fruit flavours and are extra ripe, with a mellow, spicy overlay. Fresh and smooth as an apéritif, it is versatile enough to go well with fish, poultry, meat and soft or hard cheeses.
In the press:
"...aromatic, lively and pristine red-fruited gamay..." Anthony Rose, The Independent, 19 June 2010 (2009 vintage)
"The 2009 vintage has been hailed as one of the best ever in the Beaujolais region and this is a brilliant example, showing vibrant, juicy raspberry and cherry fruit with lovely purity and a bit of grip. Grown up Beaujolais that's still great fun. " Jamie Goode, Sunday Express, 20 June 2010 (2009 vintage)
On opening, lovely purple hues, powerful aroma and juicy fruit with a good savoury edge. On the 2nd and 3rd day I thought it was a bit thin, but towards the bottom of the bottle it came good again. Not my usual style but would try again. Good with cheese. Best lightly chilled.
