Domäne Wachau Grüner Veltliner 'Terraces' 2008 Wachau, Austria. Waitrose £7-ish

A rich and interesting white, although considered dry I feel it has one foot firmly in the spicy, off-dry lounge- similar to an Alsace Gewurzt. Conference pear and peppery notes, the bite comes from the fruit intensity and not the surprisingly mellow acidity. Alcohol heat just starting to show on the finish, would recommend with antipasto/tapas.

The '09 is currently on offer in Waitrose and is picking up a few awards.

The '08 was a Decanter Trophy winner. I never tried that, but picked up an '09 last week on the off chance. I have just checked and it has a lowly bronze from Decanter this year.

Will look to try this soon. Sounds good. Thanks GK.

Yep, at least six months.

My wife and I have a soft-spot for Austrian wines, its where we honeymooned, I keep a few GV's in the rack and pull one out now & then if Mrs GK needs cheering up.

Of the 3 or 4 GVs that I've tried, this is the only one that I would buy again (although I have not had an expensive one yet). Mine was '06 if I remember correctly. Grapefruit, metallic and white pepper and celery. Mine was nowt like Gew., much flatter, blander, heading towards Chablis.

Tried the 09 last night. It was really nice. I expected it to be quite dry but it was quite sweet. It had a wonderful mouthfeel. Is GV normally oaked? I would have guessed yes with this, but there were no clues on the label. Would definitely buy again.

Actually, this does remind me of the Ligny Chablis, after it has opened up a bit on day 2/3 when that lovely mouthfeel becomes evident, although its there from the off with the GV. Lemon and butter notes are there, so I can see where your coming from Ba, but there is more depth to the flavour in the GV, which I would have thought suited you better.

Finished off tonight. Lovely. Will definitely pick up more when next on offer.

I believe a small portion of this see's the inside of a barrel Tribs, as with other GV's to a degree.
