As Jancis is banging on about the 2007 vintage for the Southern Rhone I had high expectations of a bargain here. Fruity nose, followed by lots of rich fruit on the palate but flabby and overly warm from the alcohol level.

Can't imagine it will improve with age.

Acceptable at half price but not at £12 bottle.

Ah yes, Grenache and Syrah, when beautifully choreographed you are rewarded with Fred & Ginger, throw in a little Mourvedre and you have the backing of the Royal Philharmonic. Harmony.

However, in the hands of Caves St-Pierre the performance quite often resembles John Sergeant and Kerry Katona, jousting to the din of a dozen cats crammed into a dishwasher.

I do quite like this one-
