Both wines £7.99 and both from the Awatere Valley in Marlborough which is said to produce wines with a distinctive tomato leaf flavour as opposed to the more commen blackcurrant leaf/ elderflower flavour of the Wairau valley.
The Crossings has 2% oak Tawhiri has none
Tawhiri is pungent, tart and intense. Stunning flavour but the tartness is hard work. The wine is light bodied.
The Crossings has the same underlying flavour but is very restrained and the wine is rich/ fuller in body.
The Crossings is the classier wine but I prefer Tawhiri.
But then....i'm a Welsh oik.
