Pear and mineral. Classic Sancerre.
Apart from the pear. Obviously. G ~ nice but not worth the money ~
Yeah, I enjoyed a Waitrose Pouilly Fume' from the 2005 super ripe vintage. One that I laid down deliberately to see if it would go anywhere. It was a £7.99 special of theirs.
I do know what you mean about the pear, The 2005 PF has pineapple as well.
Goose: We try to understand vintages,. Was this Sancerre very lightly oaked ? Was it too ripe ? Was it too old, or was the fruit too "Simple"
With 70 year old vines, I'd be expecting something rather spectacular for a super ripe harvest. Concentrated and integrated, what was the Alc % level % One would expect another degree from 2005 conditions. Many growers would be guarded and very jealous of knarled 70 year old vines - to make a special cuvee'
I think of Fournier as bulk producers - you could have found a Vacheron or Joseph Mellot one for £14 quid. Sorry about your dissapointment
