Very intense citrus and something a little bit smoky...almost flinty

It says figs and gooseberry on the label.....

Excellent...but only by composty, vedgetal South African standards.

6/10

Tried quite a few SBs at Tesco, yesterday. Will try and get them up on the Forum asap.

In a nutshell

Tesco South African 06 was hard work
Sancerre Les Sentiers 05 fine, but not quite pure on the finish.
Fournier P Fume 05 £9.99 delicious, lovely balance
Oyster Bay 06 predictably good
Jackson Estate Marl 8.99 lacking on the nose but fabulous in the mouth
Finest Darling S Af 06 6.99 crap - bore little resemblance
Finest Marl 06 7.49 typical and reasonable but a touch of saccharine on fin
Sancerre Megalithe Dom de la Perrier 05 £15.99 (FW section) peapod smell. slightly oaked and finishes with liquorice.
Jackson Estate Grey Ghost 06 £14.99 very catty, green and attractive. zingy, tangy, pure SB. long lasting and delicious.

Hope this helps

Thanks...I haven't tried the Grey Ghost but the unoaked Jackson Estate is so good I doubt if i'll trade up.

I do think that the Saint Clair Vicar's Choice at Thresher is marginally better though and a little cheaper at £8 ( for 3 ).

Worth trying next time anybody is in there looking to make up 3 bottles.

You have better Sancerres than me..I only have the Tesco finest...finest of course being something of an exaggeration.

Shame about the decline of the Finest Marlborough...I think they over oaked this vintage as it seemed a little sweeter and less herbaceous than the last 2 vintages

:(
