As a child, I always prefered Boxing day to the frenetic 25th. Cold turkey, beef, ham and NO maiden grand-aunts...except for the time that I found an air rifle under my bed.

David Tennant, obviously, but for the last time. Will have to tape it. That's the problem with having a house sitter, they might accidentally delete Dr Who. Imagine.

The day itself is a little bit of an anticlimax usually but now the girls are getting a bit bigger, as Goose said, it's about the kids and them having a good day.

Stuffing your face and drinking in excess is always a winner (altho quite a few weekends can be like that anyway - but you are meant to do it on xmas day! )

Think I'm gonna try and go to a carol service this year too - not done it since I was a kid but thnk its another good way to warm up for the run in to the big day

(and Mel don't worry, The Doctor will be on Player for a while should your recording go walkies and is bound to be repeated several times on BBC3.

As a Grandpa I prefer Boxing day, lunch is so much more relaxing. An excuse for more than a moment to spoil myself, as I select something lovely from the cote de beaune or nuits.

Now that my kids have grown-up that bottle seems to go rather quickly - but I am even more happy when they say

We like to go to Lichfield Cathedral on Christmas Eve for the carol service, its a beautiful building, even more so at Christmas.

Ive been dressing up as Santa every xmas eve for the last seven years, I go into my daughters room shortly after she has been put to bed and drop off a few gifts, give her a cuddle. My daughter is eight now and beginning to ask questions, I think this could be the last year.

When my first daughter was very young, I spent too much time on work and then on fixing this place, that had been unmaintained for decades.

I should have got more people in to help.

Enjoy them, they are only kids for 5 minutes, and then suddenly.....
