Southern Rhone Notice:

I was in a large store yesterday, and combed the shelves for the 2007. At this price level, it is wise to pick through and see if you can find it amongst the others.

When the wine is a bulk production, the difference in vintage characteristics is far more apparent.

At the expensive level, growers alter their pruning strategy and fermentation techniques to try and overcome any shortfall in quality and style.

GK liked the Bonpas, but I can't remember if it was a 2007 or not

For 2008 - Tavel appears to have been the most favourable appelation, from my web checking. However results are not posted with all of the details

My Bonpas is (by chance) '07. The Ile de Barry is NV (consume within 6 months) unless I've got the wrong thing.
P.S. GG has not had many bon passes today, might be a little peeved.

Chartreuse Bonpas CdR 2007. Perfect Bacchus

At that price, and assuming you like the wine, I would recommend you take half a dozen and put them away for a while (can you do that Ba). Ignore what is written on the label about storing, nearly every bl**dy label says the same from a supermarket.

This will keep well to mid 2012 and improve as you wait. Can you store cool Ba ? if not, revise downwards

Cellar not too deep. 10c in winter and up to 20 in summer.

Bacchus - You listed those wines, not me ! I meerly recommended 2007 for the S. Rhone's

Ba - For heavens sake don't buy, just because they are on offer. You have to enjoy southern Rhone first and foremost, before going near them.

Don't know that beaujolais, don't appreciate Cab & Shiraz mixes generally, carménère from Chile can be interesting, and have written a note for the V. light summer pudding pinot.

Now there's a surprise - I haven't tried any of the others on your list !

Ba, you said you had a cellar in your Bristol house a while back, so I asked is 'all. GK Tested the Bonpas, with good reports, then I checked it out on the Web. The Rhone reports for the South are very very good for '07. Parker rates it as a 90 + all over the region. Had they had the '07 in my Sains local, I would have scored a few for next year or so..

At £4.49 I would take a case of the Bonpas, there's legs in tha'un for sure.

I will look for it in my local, mine was the '07.

The Casillero Carmenere at £5.26 is not such a good deal, this can regularly be found sub £5.

The JS Rodet Burgundy is on my radar.

Waitrose across-the-board 25% ending tomorrow. Wednesday sees new individual offers including Dourthe #1. Alledgedly.

I still haven't received the new Waitrose offers. I expect they'll come today.

Tesco online are offering free delivery this week.

I just ordered a couple of cases of gluggers for a curry night coming up at a local bring-your-own booze restaraunt, I am supplying the wine for the table, mostly Jacobs Creek drinkers. I had an £11 clubcard token, the cost worked out at £2.40 per bottle, delivered.

Jacob's Creek is MUCH too good for curry. I would recommend Tesco Budget Limeade '09 - 19p / litre

How would you know? You dont eat curry.
