personally I'd reach for an Albarino... Fact it is native to spain is a good start, is well matched to seafood and I think the slight sweetness found should counter the spiciness well...

But that's me and at the moment it is one of my faves in the white wine category

Majestic have Martin Codax Allbarino on offer if you buy 2 bottles.
Have read good things about more expensive offerings:
Fefinanes Albarino 2007 (waitrose 14.99)
Terras Gauda O Rosal (independant merchants)

Off the top off my head, the other widely available and reasonably priced suggestion I'd make would be St Hallett's Poachers Blend. (ccurrently on offer at waitrose around £5.49)

Huh - damn -I missed it , I too had completely forgotten that the origins of Paella are a traditional Valencian dish for farmers and fishermen from the other side of the country ! But then Brum is a western city that majors on Balti. We can hardly say though, that Valencian separatists revolted against Franco.

You folks should know that this fine gent organised a dozen JE '07 this lunch hour....that are winging there way to Reading for Monday. So it looks like those guys at my local have already lined up another Gaffer for the other box.
