Blimey, Blimey Mate, where the hell it that store of yours ? Tesco have regional in store prices, I've noticed Lincoln is considerably cheaper than Berkshire. I've highlighted the ones I want - Crikey, fill your snow boots.

Where is that Store - North Wales ? The Outer Hebrides ? above Newcastle ?

I can feel a road trip coming on.

Where?

I expect someone may have taken all the good ones.

My local Extra store is in Bridgend. So just a short 400 mile round trip down the M4 for you Duncan. I went to Maidenhead recently. In the town centre they had a big Wine Rack, Waitrose, M&S and Sainsbury.

I was most impressed. My hosts served me Carling Black Label and Hardy's Crest chardonnay. I was less impressed.

The Sancerre is a waste of money and the Marlboroughs on offer are all a little fuller and more rounded. Although I haven't as yet tried the Curious Cove which is made by Wither Hills who do have a tendancy to make ripe and rounded sauvs. I've learnt to avoid them.

I bought 20 bottles of the The Reach rose for just £80. It's nicer than any Sancerre rose that i've ever had and i've had a few really good ones along with quite a few dreadful ones.

Some of the wines can be ordered online for the discount stated with an extra 5% off ( + £5 delivery ) but many of the offers do not seem to be online.

Which is odd.

Curious Cove and The Reach are both 2008 so I cannot believe that it's a case of one store selling off bin ends.

Might be a good idea to phone your nearest few Extra stores and checking what's on offer before going out.

Goosegogs,

Re - luscious 2007 vintage Malborough SB - A tale of wring my hands & woe's

I just received my cases of the Reach SB 2007 and Montana reserve 2007. Although I ordered the 2007 from the Web site ....They have delivered 2008

I have tried, pleaded even, to get them to find the pallets with the 2007 in their Warehouse in Brankstone ??? or wherever. Somebody has put that aside for themselves, hmmnnn.
They won't do that, they say they can't do that, they just offer money back - and I want the Reach 2007, not the bloody money ! booh hoo.

I have asked them to swap the Reach MSB 2008 with the Montana reserve MSB 2007 - Have I made the right choice ?.

Just as you have said - with these MSB's you want the wine to cut the palate, it is only a true :qofgold: if it has enough acid (freshness) to prop all that lychee, lime and peach nectar business that is all going on at once in there.

grumpy Dunc .......Aacchhhh !

No kidding ! I realy like supping wine with folks who have taste buds.

Of course, We'll have a Reach 2007 before supper

Ha ha, That is always the problem when you climb up the quality tree, the scenery is so much more elegant. You are a generous Chap for sure.

Mr G. I will check that 2002 Mersault, when I look in at my expensive Thames Valley Extra versus South Wales
.
G, 2002 was a textbook year for even the scrubby plots around the edges of Mersault. A perfect growing seasons plus a cooler August meant ....very fresh and balanced Mersaults. Ladoix and St Romain made brilliant whites at easy money........Yeah, if you could find any in the UK. These are NOT fashionable village names - huh.

I wonder if that Mersault has been stored in a hot warehouse, or was made for early consumption ? - mind you, as ordinary village M, it will be "old" at the end of 2009.

It doesn't have the same system as the Cote d'Or. The Challonaise authorities award that designation in Mercury and Montagny, to indicate old vines grown on recognised better slopes above the 250 meter contours. Some of it may be hype, other Premier crus designations are true. Cave de Buxy and Louis Latour make reliable volume production, which can be like petite Cote de Beaune when on song.
Please bear in mind that Majestic offered a goodun for the bench mark 2005 for £7.99, and that one did actually exhibit a touch of hazzlenuts.

Mel with all her learned MW studies, could to tell us how this status is awarded in the Cote de Challonaise ? Over to you maestro.

1er Cru is quite common in Montagny, in fact much commoner than standard AC. Not sure what your question is exactly. In the OCW it states that 199 out of 298 hectares of Montagny is of premier cru status.

In the olden days Montagny wines were called 1er Cru if they were more than 11.5% which nowadays seems laughable, however now they're judged in the same way as the rest of Burg.

Chalonaise 1er Cru if they were more than 11.5% which nowadays seems laughable. Yeah to be fair ! But this was before Chaptalization and innoculation, and all this other semi industrial stuff - The alcohol level from free running 1st juice and climat yeasts for the must.

Mel, as always the perfect diplomat for all these producers.
