I grabbed six of the Errazuriz Max Reserva Syrah 2010, a well regarded vintage that's still to peak according to online reviews. I'll struggle to find a red of this caliber for under six quid delivered.

Max reserva merlot and carm & norton winemakers reserve cab might be worth a look in
The bridlewood Pinot from Cali could be interesting
Berberana reserva for £6 or Moura Basta Reserva (Douro) @ £6.50 perhaps

Robert Oakley Shiraz - I'm in accord with Shezza.

I have tried this wine, it is jolly good value, be sure to decant the wine for an hour or so, to deliver the full flavours. GK, you would like this one, is is not in the least dry, and has a bit of length as well.

Berberana is a full and soft reserva, not dry & quite decent for the price, but not complex. I have never aged the Berberana, so take as you go.

For others looking in here, claret people who believe in the 2010 vintage for cellaring:

There are other offers outside of the Large red Warehouse clearance image, that are also good. There are still several claret offers for the 2010 vintage that is very well regarded for aging as well as now, but the middle priced wines have gone. The three I've shown below have a higher proportion of cabernet sauvignon, that did ripen well, and have decent reviews.

I argued Black Friday stock clearance with the wine supervisor and got the prices I was prepared to pay for dusty clearance shelves. But . . . but then took back three of the right bank clarets as I discovered rather quickly from the Wine Society website when I got back, that this right bank cuvee' was probably unoaked. Duh ! On tasting, totally unoaked, that deliberate avoidance of proper detail that these web sites employ was confirmed - the fruit was ok, nothing more.

On returning the Ch. Mazerac,
I bought 6 x Villa Maria Taylors Pass 2014 for £51.00, this price with vouchers, there was an instore £6 off when spending £40 voucher that my Misses kindly gave me.

Sadly, at the mo, **I do not rate the VMTP 2014, and have come to a very similar conclusion to other NZ wine writers who publish the awards and tasting events.
My feeling is this - Because 2014 was a huge and heathy crop, during an usually temperate summer with plenty of light rain in the Awatere valley, that none of the growers could be bothered to prune down the rampant canopy, and expose the sun to the grapes. Therefore all mechanically harvested MSB, without any intervention will be on a general middle of the road plateau. Nothing very interesting, nothing to complain about, nothing to excite you.
Saint Clair did some intervention in the vineyards, and that is why they won some awards, and why you pay £20 before discounts.
A sad result for wine lovers, a cash cow for the growers.
The small Awatere sea side crop in 2012, was the Taylors Pass to buy - and it was very good indeed.

I will drink VMTP 2014 with fish dishes next summer. At the mo, the primary profile is citrussy and a bit sherbet, grapefruit the next day, (no secondary tropical stone fruit of any note, but some chalk minerality) it will cut through a decent fish dinner, and is dry enough to cleanse the palate - it may improve though, so I keep in the cellar.

Villa Maria Taylors Pass 2014.

72 hours later, and I have thrown off, shaken-out most of the citrus soda stream spritz out of this wine - And can taste the wine properly now.

My dear lady wife loves this wine tonight. I've said to her that it will not be ready until summer 2017, she says, Hey . that's not too bad, we might actually get a summer by then !

The VMTP has acquitted itself, not of course to vintage 2012 levels;
I've warmed the wine up unfashionably in my hand, I'm getting pink grapefruit, ripe gooseberry, more broken stones than chalk, and my dear lady says there is lychee present. If those NZ judges drank this wine on 1st opening more than three months ago, no wonder they were not amused.

Is there some kind of weird fashion for cold sherbet soda fountain in the UK? Who knows why they don't make them as still wine. I shook the bottle on Tuesday night and wacked it back into the fridge, today, there was quite a hiss as I undid the cap.

Anyway . . .simply put, I'm keeping this for better days, and by deduction, evolution will benefit for my palate, this wine hugely. Given the vintage characteristic, I'm happy with this. No oily feel in the texture, no cats pee, no tart and no sour twist in the end game. Finish, not as dry as the primary, a good sign.

A bit of a shame that TP isn't showing as well as we remember the 12 vintage did, but that's wine for ya
